Share your thoughts and memories of Mike Detjen with his son - Tim Dejten

With the Christmas season approaching, we felt some of our readers might want to send their kind thoughts and memories of Mike to his family.

Shortly after Mike's death in June, his son Tim Detjen opened a Wordpress blog asking people to share their thoughts and memories about Mike. If you would like to leave a comment for Mike's son, his site is located here:

Hello Family, friends and fans

June 20, 2008 -
Please share with me any stories, memories or thoughts about my father. I just want to thank everyone for the continued love and support for the Detjen and Roloff family. The response is extremely overwhelming and generous. This makes me the proudest son in the world!!! Tim Detjen

In case anybody is still not aware and there are people that still don't know, Mike passed away in early June of a torn aorta. He suffered a heart attack while attending a soccer board meeting. He was rushed to the hospital where they performed surgery to repair the torn aorta. Sadly, Mike did not make it through surgery.

Mike's death was dealt with on the show in the Dec 22, 2008 episode. It was very emotional and tastefully done.

I was really sad when I heard this news. I know the Roloffs will miss Mike and I am sure they will do justice when they have an episode to honor Mike.
I love this show and the Roloff family.

I believe this is the same thing John Ritter died of - a torn aorta. It comes on really suddenly and surgery is very difficult.

So sorry to hear it! He seemed like such a nice, decent man.

Dear Tim and Family,
Sorry for your loss. I didn't know of your dad's passing until tonight's show. Dec. 22. It was great seeing how your dad had such a postive life long impact on the Roloff brothers.

I knew about your father's passing from the newsletter sent out and I also watched the show last night. It was a very well done show and a special tribute to your father. He seemed like a very kind and caring man and an influence on the Roloff children and others in the community. May God Bless you and be with you during this Christmas season and always.

Dear Tim and Roloff family
Mike seemed to be a very calm, kind and generous man. I know I will miss him and I am sure the Roloffs are heartbroken. He is a good man.

It's so nice to be able to see the reruns with Mike in them. Even though I did not know him personally, he truly seemed to be a wonderful person and a great asset to the Roloff Family. God Bless all of you.

I echo all these statements. Although I didn't know your father, he was such a positive and kind presence whenever he was on the show and he was obviously a great friend and person. My deepest sympathies.

I don't know if Mike's sons ever see this, but if they do I was wondering:

How does it make you feel when people say that your dad seemed like he was a father to Jeremy Roloff? Is it awkward?

They appeared to be close. I'm not sure how I would feel about that if I were you.

Best wishes.

Dear Tim,
I only 'knew' your dad from watching the show, and he seemed like such a wonderful sweet man. When I watched the episode of his passing, it just made me incredibly sad. I'm so happy the Roloff's and Mike had each other, and especially that he had you for a son.
I wish you the best

your dad seemed like a great person. was so sad and shocked when heard he had passed on. i liked that he spent time with jake. he seemed like the only adult that made one on one time with jake when matt and amy couldn't.

I only 'knew' him from the show, but to me, he embodied everything a Christian man should be.

Praying for Mike's family. He seemed like a kind and patient man. From what Daniel Meichtry said, that was true.

It's the ultimate tribute to any person to be known as someone who gave of themselves and asked nothing in return.

God bless.

Mike was a wonderful human being. I loved to watch him on the show with the Roloff boys and their friends, he was so sweet with them. Mike was clearly loved by the whole family. I still see such a void on the show with him gone. You were all lucky to have had him in your lives...but I didn't have to tell you that. Mike's beautiful and gentle spirit will be forever missed I am sure.

Dear Detjen family,

You're still in my thoughts and I am deeply sorry about your loss.

I am still touched by Mike's kindness he displayed to the Roloffs and apparently everyone who knew them (Dan seemed very affected by his loss too, probably the same with all that knew him).

He's an example of the kind of friend we all want to have in our own lives and the kind of friend we should strive to be.

Mike seemed like such a decent kind man, a true friend to the Roloff family. He also seemed like a lonely man to me and the Roloff family was just what he needed and they needed him. I think they were both better off from being in each other's lives. RIP Mike.

I have watched the show since the beginning and feel like they are part of my world. Mike was Matt's right hand and a beloved friend to the whole family, especially the youngest son. When he passed I grieved just like I had lost a family member. I still miss him so much on the show and feel the difference with him gone. He was a friend, confident, and trustworthy person...one of those rare finds in life.
