Happy 14th Birthday Jacob Roloff

Happy Birthday Jake Roloff! He is 14 today.

In her coffee chats, Amy has discussed Jacob's birthday plan. A couple of weeks ago she said Jeremy might join them and they would go skiing. This past Friday she said they would probably just have a normal 14 year olds birthday -- a bunch of friends, X Box and pizza.

Matt and Amy posted some pictures on their Fan Facebook pages. Along with the comment that they got Jacob a mini fridge for his bedroom because that's what he wanted. Amy's comment was "Happy birthday to Jacob. Frig he asked for and filled with good stuff :). No MD from mom :)."

I feel old seeing Jacob grow up on tv! 14 well.

That Jacob is such a good looking boy. I'm surprised if companies haven't tried to use him for modeling or print ads.

Hopefully he has a nice birthday and then they teach him some responsibility the rest of the year.

I've seen some people argue that he should be as spoiled as indulged as Jeremy and Zach to keep it fair, but I totally disagree with that disastrous mindset.

Don't make the same mistakes with Jacob as they did with Jeremy and Zach. Giving them no responsibility while flooding with them trips and gadgets was the start of some unhealthy habits for Jeremy and Zach.

Happy birthday to the youngest Roloff. I think there are a lot of good signs that in time Jacob will be ok as Matt predicted.

It's a great sign that Matt is able to spend more time with Jacob than he ever has before. It's also a positive sign that by all indications Jacob admires Jeremy.

May this year their influences will rub off on Jacob and he become closer to God.

Hmmmmm. Friends over, food and video games.

How is that different than any other day of the week for the Roloffs? ;)

stop sayin happy bday to him. you ppl are stupid. if you said that to jacob he would want to tell you to shut the f up. :p

fans are so stupid.

A low key birthday is a good idea. They need to stop spoiling him and get back some sense of normalcy.

Life will be tough for Jacob because the only life he knows is being doted on because he was a tv star.

How will a kid like that ever learn what life is like for most people? I think he will have empathy problems.

It's scary to think Jacob is going to be driving next year...another Roloff on the road.

Zach and Amy are speed demons.

Matt's DUI arrests and admittedly driving vehicles with unstable pedals to the point where he is swerving out of his lane.

Jeremy's road rage driving style, laying on the horn for 2 minutes until he intimidates other drivers off the highway combined with his dangerous habit of texting while driving is a disaster waiting in the wings.

Hopefully Molly shows some sense.

I just hope for Matt and Amy's sake he matures some and stops causing them so much stress.

Where will he be in 6 years? That is the question.

Nancy - you may be misunderstanding the discussion. Personally, the *only* problem I have with a fairly low key birthday party is that in comparison to the lavish planned "young crowned princes in their glory" events where Amy and Matt both make sure to make things special special.... Jake sees his parents put next to no effort into his birthday.

Ten days before the party, Amy is publically musing that they might go skiing *if Jeremy wants*. Now its a few friends over and pizza (which indeed sounds like every other night at the Roloff house)

Compare that to Amy taking extra special care to interview Jeremy's friends to make sure Jeremy got *exactly* what Jeremy wanted on his special day. Compare that to Amy and Matt both opining on camera how special the twins birthday's are and how special they want Molly to feel.

This really isn't about material things - although lets be real, kids do indeed notice it - but more about how the twins have a great big special day and how Jake's birthday plans pretty much depend on who wants to be bothered.

Really - the material aspect just makes it more obvious but the "if *Jeremy* wants to" comment tells me exactly who matters in the Roloff home.

I'm also honestly curious - who here insisting the birthday should be low key also feel the same for Jeremy and Zach? That their fourteeth birthday (where Jeremy watched his friends spit on his brother) should have been pizza and Xbox with maybe a couple friends?

Timothy said...

Well, I hope he has a nice birthday too :)

If this is going to be a Jacob discussion, despite the two respective fan base attacks, unfortunately I think Jacob IS going to be the next Jeremy and in my opinion, that's not a good thing.

The positive is if they don't get another prime time entertainment gig, they won't be celebrities and his unwanted behavior will go unnoticed by the rest of the world.

Selfish, mouthy and spoiled. That's what I see in Jacob and that's precisely what I see in Jeremy despite some of their attempts on the show to portray him in a different way.

Ela said...

The Roloffs haven't raised nice kind boys. I think all 3 of the Roloff boys are very mean.

Molly must have been adopted.

Anonymous said...

Anne - looks like Jake will need to mature since Jeremy "Peter Pan" Roloff is always gonna be a little boy sucking off his mommy's teats.

Jeremy's picture is in the dictionary under "immature slacker baby".

Christine said...

Ela, I don't understand why people think Molly is so nice? She gets better grades and I can see that she doesn't give the same persona as being as obnoxious as her brothers, but to me, "nice" is something different.

Do you think that the least popular girl in school would think of Molly as being nice? Does she really give you that kind of impression? That's the type of person that I say "that's a really nice kid". They do exist contrary to the myth that all kids are as nasty and mouthy as Jeremy. There are good kids still out there.

I think because the Roloff boys are so mouthy and obnoxious that people sometimes heap a little too much praise on Molly.

Nancy said...

Rap, thanks for explaining.

But what type of party do you think the Roloffs should have done for Jacob's 14th birthday.

If you're saying it should have been a lavish party because some of the other kids birthdays were like that I disagree that would be the *right* thing to do.

I do think Jeremy and Zach's birthdays should have been low key. I'm not a fan of them. That's why I'm objecting to Jacob getting similar treatment. They spoiled the twins, lets try to save Jacob before he's 20 with no job and expects to be handed everything because his parents spent his life giving him whatever he wanted.

tay said...

yeah rap. answer that. what would have made you happy???

what kind of birthday should they have given jake since you have all the answers?

Laura said...

Rap, personally I didn't consider the party on Little People Big Dreams to be that lavish. They had what? 12 to 20 kids and played soccer in the yard. Then they had cake. Then they went to the barn and played music. That's not lavish and not all that different than what it sounds like they were doing for Jacob.

The only difference and what I think makes it seem more lavish to you is the fact that they were filming a documentary at the time.

Darlene said...

Rap, I can't figure out if you really believe Jeremy is favored or if you say that to argue?

Wasn't it Jeremy's (and Zach's) 18th birthday that Matt missed because he took a trip to Hawaii by himself? That's Jeremy being favored? If Matt took a trip out of town and missed Jacob's birthday that would be Matt not making Jacob important. But he does it to Jeremy, but Jeremy is the favorite? How so?

Megan.S said...

In that picture i can see him turning into matt in terms of his facial features, also Nicole your joking right?

Rap541 said...

"If you're saying it should have been a lavish party because some of the other kids birthdays were like that I disagree that would be the *right* thing to do."

No, I think what would have been nice is a parent or two making a point of saying how *special* they wanted Jake's birthday to be. Both Matt and Amy really make a point of saying how they, for example, want Molly to feel special so therefore they make a point of arranging for Molly to do x, y, and z (generally with Amy). Amy wants Jeremy's birthday to be *special* so she makes a public point of consulting his buddies... Planning the twins parties seems very important.

Compare that to Jake's 9th birthday party where Zach was in the hospital and Amy crowned herself a great mom for showing up to Jake's party, complete with telling him how she dragged herself away from Zach's side, or the one other Jake birthday we saw, where Amy was buying presents at last minute and noting how she had no idea what he might want....

I think pizza and friends over is fine... if the implication has't consistently been that no one felt like bothering. It sounds like Jake wanted to go skiing with Jeremy for his birthday (which btw in their neck of the woods isn't that extravagant either) and look what happened.

Darlene - I called Matt out on ditching the twins and his wife on Mother's day - I respectfully point out that Amy was all about making sure that Jeremy (and to a lesser extent Zach) had a very special birthday regardless complete with specially planned kayaking and kiteboarding... So even tho Matt ditched the family, Amy made a special point to plan something special.... See the difference?

Nicole said...

Megan, no, I wasn't joking. Jacob is a better looking kid than most kids that age I see in commercials or print ads.

Vicky said...

Nicole, I agree Jacob is a cute kid, but strictly based on looks, I think Jeremy had more of a future in that line of work at the same age. There aren't many pictures of Jeremy at that age, but if you see some, he was very nice looking. There are lots of kids that look like Jacob with the dark hair and dark eyes, but Jeremy stood out. If I had a product and needed a 13 or 14 year old, I would have choose Jeremy.

Allison said...

It's clear that the boy is very loved. Anyone trying to make Jacob into a victim is only trying to be negative and create trouble.

Diane said...

A mini fridge...I'm sure he already had a mini fridge? I think it was white.

A new one...that will solve the problem of how to get him out of his room more, supply him with an in room fridge.

Thinks sure have changed since when I grew up.

JimW said...

This isn't only directed at the Roloffs, but the entire concept of mini fridges.

It shows how lazy people have gotten. No wonder why obesity is a problem for kids today. I don't think it's because of pop or snacks, it's because people are so lazy and let the kids be lazy.

God forbid a healthy 14 year old need to run the down the stairs to the kitchen to get a drink out of the fridge. Now it's all set up so he doesn't need to move off his bed.

Angela said...

Jacob's hair is kind of long. Doesn't Faith have rules about length of hair for boys?

AB said...

Another spoiled rotten Roloff kid.

Yvonne said...

Maybe this year Jacob will begin to appreciate everything he has and all that his parents do for him. Realize how fortunate he is. It was frustrating to watch him go on these vacations that most kids never get the chance to experience, but there was Jacob with his pouty sulky face looking like he was miserable. Those kids have no idea how lucky they are.

Carolyn said...

Megan S, I'm also curious why you asked Nicole if she was kidding? I too have always thought Jacob is cuter than most kids that appear in tv or magazine advertisements.

Vicky, I haven't seen enough of Jeremy at a younger age to compare.

Cindy said...

I'm out of touch. Do most 14 year olds ask for their own fridge for their room as a birthday present?

Leah said...

What is funny about Jacob and the fridge is since when did it need to be a special occasion for the Roloffs to get "stuff"?

The Roloffs are all about getting the biggest and best STUFF there is. They don't wait for birthdays or holidays. That's the way people that value STUFF live, life to them is about having stuff now.

Craw said...

Jer probably said no to skiing with Jacob because could you imagine? After putting up with 2 hours of whining it would be like volunteering to spend the next 3 hours at the hospital waiting room after Jacob injures himself!

Sarah said...

Hey guys, they also went to Red Robin.

I don't think some of the Roloffs understand facebook's privacy settings but I don't want to bud in :)

Molly joined Amy's fan page. She posted a bunch of pics to the fan page of Jacob and her from Jacob's party. But because she has her page so deep in privacy only her friends can see the pictures even tho it's on a public fan page. I think Molly thinks everyone can see them there or why else would she have posted them on a fan page?

I know that because I'm a friend of Molly's :) I was talking to my friend about her caption of the pic of Jacob at Red Robin "Smiling but embarrassed". I told my friend I hate being at restarants that sing happy birthday to you...my friend asked me what the heck I was talking about because she said there was no picture on Amy's fan page wall from Molly. I figured out that I can see it because I'm Molly's friend but my friend (and all of you!) can't because Molly has her privacy settings too deep.

So before you all bash the Roloffs for being stuck up, Molly is at least trying, she just doesn't realize that her settings are too restrictive :)

Expressed said...

Sarah, well that sucks for us!

Facebook is confusing sometimes. Molly probably has it that way because she doesn't want anyone seeing her private pictures on her profile but thinks if she posts them outside for her page they will be visible...but they aren't! Sucks for us!

Was Jeremy's in Molly's pictures at Red Robin?

Sam said...

Sarah don't even bother. Roloff kids don't care about anyone but themselves.

I once figured out how a fake Jeremy was stealing info from him. I told him what was happening. He did what I told him and it worked, but he didn't thank me and I never heard from him again. I tried to help him and what did I get for it nothing? Because he doesn't give a damn about anyone but himself and he has no manners. It made me regret helping him. Zach is the same way. I assume Molly is the same too.

Kathy said...

No kid needs a fridge in their room. I read an article that blamed the downfall of the American family on stuff like this. Parents spoil their kids to the point that everyone is detached from each other in their own rooms.

Kane said...

They should get him a Bible. Then make him read Thou shall respect your parents".

Happy Birthday Jacob! May you be able to live the rest of your teen years without being followed by a camera and look forward to a normal life.

Yes, Rap, I would have wanted Jer and Zach to have "normal" birthdays. My son is 17 and the last 3-4 years is all about teens hanging together, having pizza and playing video games. The skating parties, Chuck E Cheese, bowling etc... is not what the NORMAL teen BOY wants for their birthday.

How much the filming by TLC influenced the Roloffs over-the-top birthdays and fawning by parents we will never know. Yet I sincerely believe that w/o the cameras, both of those young men (Zach and Jer) would be in a far better place in their lives today.

The idea that Jer and Zach could have shut off the cameras when they turned 18 is ridiculous. Their parents wanted the easy TLC-paid for life, and neither of these kids had the skills, savings, or the emotional ability to walk away from their family or the money.

Yeah Jer and Zach were going to tell their glory-seeking, micro managing, control freak of a dad that "hey dad we refuse to be on the show." Nah, wasn't going to happen (but you did see them both lessen their on screen presence considerably in some sort of need for privacy)JMO.

I know it's been said before, but does anyone else notice that Jacob is totally taking after Jeremy in the clothes he wears? People have already said about his interests being the same as Jeremy, but I think his hero worship of Jeremy is coming out in his clothes too.

Are they actually Jeremy's old clothes or does he just get the exact same clothing in a smaller size? Jeremy has the exact same sweat pants.

It's funny because if you look at the pictures from Jeremy at his 14th birthday party from LPBD he's wearing the same pants as Jacob is (except because it was summer, Jeremy's were shorts). But it looks like the exact same material with the same design, the black with the white stripes.

Jacob has the same coats Jeremy wears. Jacob wears the same style of jeans, the same shoes. Jacob has the same bracelet on his wrist like Jeremy. It's like everything needs to have the Jeremy seal of approval.

Btw, I'm not knocking him for it, just noticing :)

Expressed said...

Em...yep! I've seen that too. He even has the red pants :)

Aidan said...

People can argue if Jacob is better looking than other kids in print and TV ads but it's about more than just looks. Kids have to have the right attitude and need to be personable. From everything I've seen, I don't think with his temper and could-not-care-less-attitude he would be professional enough to get multiple jobs without Matt working some strong magic.

Z to the Zee said...

Jacob hated the TLC photo shoots that they were required to do. He has no interest in that kind of thing.

Kaysy said...

It's important for people to remember that the Roloffs aren't what they were portrayed as on the tv show.

The tv show was not reality. It was entertainment designed to make money. By doing so they wanted to make the Roloffs relateable but likable.

If you've ever had the unfortunate pleasure of dealing with any of them in person you all would realize that they are nothing like the nice people they tried to portrayed themselves as.

I like jacob more than jeremy. i don't understand why some people think jeremy is so great.

i think jacob has a lot more potential than jeremy and won't have as big of an ego i hope. you can tell he's way smarter than jeremy too.
