Zach Roloff and The Statesmen (Dwarf Basketball team) on WWE Tough Enough - May 2, 2011

Matt Roloff's blog - Roloff World, had reported that the episode of WWE Tough Enough with Zach Roloff would air on May 9th, however that turned out to be incorrect as it aired tonight May 2nd.

Episodes of Tough Enough are being put on You Tube, so you can watch the Statesmen segment right now. The part with Zach and the Statesmen begins around the 5 minute mark of the video.

The only Statesmen player that was shown speaking to the camera was Zach 7:10 in the video. When he was speaking they put his name on the screen -- Zach Roloff, The Statesmen.

Zach Roloff: "Battling wrestlers, kicking their ass. Big tough guys, 6'6, 7 footers - it was good."

Little People, Big World was not mentioned and no other members of the Statesmen were identified in this episode.

Matt probably gave out the wrong date because he didn't want the fans to hear a Christian Roloff saying "ass".

It wasn't terrible, but the introduction complete with the laughing wasn't a LPBW esque message.

Zach sounded cocky!

Marty wasn't on the team??

Did Matt give this his blessing or no?

Way to go Statesmen! They're good!

I thought Zach was only into soccer!!!!!!! Anything to get back on tv, I guess!!!!!!

I liked little Booker T the best!!!!!!!

Sarah said...

It would have been better if Jeremy had been invited too.

World renowned?

They were definitely being laughed at. The introduction is proof. I'm very disappointed that a Roloff participated in that.

Zach turned down being a Leprechaun but did that? No wonder why he drives Matt crazy.

I would love to see Jeremy on a non TLC show. Zach gets on tv on another network and sounds bad ass "We kicked their ass!"

Jeremy surely would chugging the whiskey and throwin down the F bombs if he was on another show! ;)

Watch part 5 of that episode. Stone Cold Steve Austin is awesome!

I'd love to see Stone Cold talk to Jeremy like he did that Luke guy!

Yes yes, funny how the moral of the story "size doesn't matt, teamwork does" just went over people's heads.

Lynn - and I don't mean this harshly - has it ever occured to you that the laughter at his appearence is part of why Zach isn't as social as Jeremy? Did it ever occur to you that the moment of laughter is a much more *real* moment for little people than anything we've seen on LPBW?

That's Zach's reality... unlike Jeremy, the first thing people do when its mentioned that Zach is an athlete is smile and laugh because its just so ridiculous. You even got some of the smug "we're taller, we'll win" attitude from the wrestlers. Thats the world Zach lives in - where people laugh and snicker at the idea he can be good at something since he's a dwarf.

Erica - since Zach lives at home as a dependant child still, Matt had to sign off on it.

Sarah - explain why Jeremy *should* have been invited to a match between aspiring pro-wrestlers and a dwarf only team?

At least they said dwarf and not midget. That's an improvement for wrestling.

Why wasn't Marty in it? Zach partied at Marty's house for his trip. I thought Marty helped arrange it.

rap, its not jeremy's fault that people laugh at zach.

zach definately got the short end of the stick (pun maybe intended) out of being twins. jeremy is good looking, tall and a talented athlete.

Marco said...

Rap, Tough Enough, like Little People Big World, like every other reality show, is fake. Everything is staged, talked about,re shot and planned out.

Mary said...

Rap are you saying everyone that sees little people laugh like those wrestlers do?

I don't think it's fair to say that's "more real" than anything ever shown on LPBW.

Ray said...

Is Zach that hard up for money that he needs to do a wrestling show?

its not jeremy's fault that people laugh at zach.

Tay, when you can point to where I said that, you might have a valid point.

The point is that Zach faces some huge challenges the second he walks through a door, based on his appearence, while Jeremy does not. That's certainly not Jeremy's fault - but it is something that needs to be considered when the "OMIGOD Jeremy is SOOO wonderfully outgoing and charming, why isn't Zach *exactly like* Jeremy as Jeremy is so perfect in all ways?" chatter starts.

There's the reality - Zach is introduced as a world class athlete (an amusing way to look at the Statesmen, I agree) and when he walks out into the room, he's laughed at.

I'm pretty certain that laughter is more realistic to the life experience of dwarfs than "Oh Amy, we respect you and you inspire me every day!!"

Marco - yes, I am pretty sure that Tough Enough is as staged as LPBW.

Mary - are you saying it never happens?

Ugh!!!

More WWE reality TV drivel from the mind of Kevin "I'm a bucktoothed bigshot TV producer" Dunn.

Tough enough was a joke years ago and it's still are a joke today and anyone who participates in it is a joke too.

This was an excuse for people to laugh at "the freaks" while watching steroid shooting muscle bound meatheaded semi-soap opera actors playing a staged basketball game against a team of dwarfs.

Jim Ross Howard Finkle Gene Oakerlund Jerry "The King" Lawler Michael Hays and everyone else who actually knows good wrestling and work in the WWE hate the fact that Kevin Dunn wastes time making garbage "reality TV" and hires "writers" to "write" all of their broadcast programing.

Rap, Zach and his LP friends aren't nearly as sensitive as you seem to think they are. That kind of laughing when presented that way wouldn't crush him.

LPs make jokes among themselves. They would see the humor someone might have expecting the Harlem Globetrotters to appear.

Timothy said...

Look at the comments on You Tube. The viewers were just laughing "at the midgets".

Rap541 said...

Terry - I'm speaking in the greater sense. I have seen many people here, and on Twop, constantly push the point that Zach should be as daring and as outgoing as Jeremy... and don't understand why - since Matt has blessed the two of them with the same parenting - Zach is shy and hesitant and not prone to being a brash outgoing person.... and gosh, is it possible that its because people make fun of him and treat him like "god's little punchline" (to use a quote I saw on a tv show recently referencing dwarfs?

I'm amused that while some people here are noting that Zach defiled Matt's legacy by humilating himself by being part of a freakshow exploitation exhibit (and do take a *good* look at the comments here) my noting a geniunely insensitive moment and how it might affect Zach is what you choose to harp on, Terry.

I get that LPs make jokes among themselves so tell me - did Matt approve of Zach's role? He's very silent considering its one of his boys doing something extraordinary.

Or does he disapprove because this was a wee bit exploitive, complete with the norms laughing and pointing fingers?

And yet the important thing for Terry to do is make sure we all understand that while namecalling is wrong, and Zack was defiling all of Matt's work by participating in an exploitive farce, its wrong of me to think that being laughed at because of his rather obvious physical condition just might explain why Zach is less outgoing and less confident than Golden Boy Jeremy

Expressed said...

Rap, I do understand your point about the laughing, but I don't believe Zach is deeply affected by it nor is it something that dwarfs are unfamiliar with.

I've seen some about the other Statesmen. Definitely Bill. Adam, maybe the Manuels, Marty for sure (Matt is another example)...I don't think any of them are shy or lacking confidence because some people giggle. Guys like Bill and Adam would get the dwarf treatment much more than Zach because a lot of what Zach gets now is "He's the guy on the TLC show! Cool!"

I don't think you can jot down all of Zach's personality to things like giggling when he's introduced on a dwarf basketball team because not all dwarfs have personalities like Zach's.

I think Jeremy just has a better personality and that's why Matt gets along with him better.

Yeah I think it's interesting that Matt never mentioned Tough Enough on his Facebook.

Rap541 said...

I'll give you another example - straight from Matt's facebook. In a recent post, Matt tells a little antecodote about Zach:

"Zach and I were out having lunch yesterday.. And he told me a cute story: in one of his soccer classes for 4-5 year old's. One of the little girls suddenly asked out of the blue (after 6 weeks of class) "coach Zach, are you a real man".. Zach answered... "yea.. I'm coach Zach".:

Now, yes, thats cute...but look at how there's some potential there for it to also be a bit humilating. Its hard enough making your way in the world and gaining respect an authority when you look like say, Jeremy.

Now imagine being asked if you're a real man by a child? I mean, lets be honest, I can't see the DBU not making um... to be delicate, jokes about Zach's manhood. I mean really, having once been a teen myself, I think Zach is an obvious target fr that sort of comment. Put aside the sheer infantilizing way Zach and Jeremy have been raised which certainly hasn't helped either of them, just by size alone, Zach faces a sort of constant questioning of his manhood and basic competance that Jeremy never will be subjected to. And it shows in their personalities.

They're not ignoring it, they probably forgot about it since it happened two months ago. It's not posted on the statesmen or Marty's facebook.

Ashley said...

Wayne, they don't know that it aired? I think that's unlikely.

Kayla said...

Still no mention by Matt. I don't think he liked the idea.

Lynn C said...

OTOH Kayla, he did have his friend blog about it. If he was ashamed he wouldn't have given her the go ahead to blog about it even though she posted the wrong date.

Erin F said...

Marty did set up the Tough Enough appearance. He said he went to the ER and didn't get released until after. That's why he wasn't on the show.

Jason said...

@ErinF....probably too much partying. Remember Zach needed to head back to Marty's house early because he was tuckered out exhausted. I'm sure they played Risk at Marty's and drank Mountain Dew.

I think all of you people are assh^!es. Zach was born the way he is, I am sure he would change things if he could. Zach and the whole basketball team are doing the best they can in life. You people should be cheering instead of trying to put "little people" down. Personally, I do cheer for people with a "handicapp" who still try to live a full life and don't lay down and wait for a hand-out. Like I said, your all assh^!es !!!
